Beginner

I decided I want to start doing fun projects. I figure since I got a sewing machine for Christmas, I could start with something easy. Any ideas? I was thinking of some kind of blanket or baby blocks...

While looking for easy sewing projects, I stumbled upon these suggestions for beginners and cracked up. Really?

1. Grocery bag caddy (I rename this: Poop Look-A-Like Thing)
2. Bitter Cold Face Warmer (I rename this: Old Western Dust Blocker OR Hostage Shut-er Up-er)
3. Checkbook holder (I rename this: Most Worthless Item Ever)
4. Removable Money Hiding Bra Pocket (I rename this: Whaaaaat?)

Please help me. I want a fun sewing project. These will NOT do.

haha, awesome.

I'm sure you will come up with something! And when you do, pass the ideas on to me! I would love a new project to work on!

Also, I love your new blog header! Very cute!

What a crack up. I am not a fan of anything that requires me to sew so I am no help! I can't wait to see what you come up with!!!

Wow, the simulated poop is my favorite. How about a Sunday totebag for scriptures and manuals?

Our RS asked me to teach a class making a simple totebag out of a placemat!

P.S. My friend gave me a really cute kids bath towel thing with a hood that is made with a soft bath towel (lengthwise) and a matching hand towel that is sewn at the top for a little hood. You can decorate edges with cute fishy/duck/etc. ribbon. Super easy sewing, but a great project or fun gift. My kids still use them!

Okay, now I really DO want a poop thing. Just think of all the jokes Sam could make with that in the house.

The towel idea from Jan is awesome. My kids have a ton of those and their super easy.

Mom's bag idea is great--and you could even modify it to make a "halloween trick-or-treat" bag if you're not in the mood to make a "church bag" ha ha. Moods are important with sewing. Not to discount the church tote though--my first sewing project was a tote bag and I used it tons!

Wow, the crap you can find on the internet is just endless!! Personally i would start with the hidden bra pocket. Its perfect when you're working the streets... i mean when you don't have your wallet on you... I loved all the names you gave the items, i was dying laughing.

The bra pocket could be so handy to use instead of a diaper bag when you're out with Colton. Think of how much stuff you could fit in there...diapers, wipes, extra bottle, jar of baby food, spoon, toy, spare outfit, car keys....
Very practical.

Check out Amy Butler Designs... specifically the Stash & Dash bags. I seriously don't sew but I made those and they were the best beginner project. I went and bought a whole book of her designs after that and you are welcome to have a looksie or use my stash & dash pattern. Her website has free patterns featured regularly that you just download and print.

Not to be a stalker, but I saw your family pictures on Facebook, so I came to your blog to see more, and this post caught my eye because I've gotten into sewing a lot lately. I love www.kari-youcanmakeit.blogspot.com for ideas, but I've also got some ideas on my blog, including incredibly easy and cute baby blocks. :)
