Don't judge me.

Here is the truth. I really don't think I'll mind driving a mini van one day. I know I KNOW. A lot of my friends wouldn't be caught dead in one, but I think they are good cars. That being said, if I WERE to find an SUV-ish type car with similar features, I might be tempted. Do such SUVs exist?

Can anyone list off any SUVs that have these things comparable to a mini van?:

  • Price
  • Gas Mileage
  • Captain seats
  • Ease of use with children
And no, I'm not buying a new car yet. and NO, I am NOT pregnant.

The GMC Acadia or Chevy Traverse. My husband LOVES them. And, they have everything you just mentioned.....great gas mileage, captains chairs in the middle, etc. They just don't have the automatic sliding doors.

After riding in my sweet mini van, how could you not be super stoked to join mini van club someday? Ha, ha. I researched every possible option a ton when we were looking. There are a lot of really nice SUVs and crossovers out there that would be great family vehicles, but when it came down to it they are all more expensive than a mini van.

MINIVANS ROCK! Love mine! Wouldn't trade it for the world. Are you kidding me? Pushing a button on your keys that opens the door for you...it doesn't get better than that! Plus the gas mileage is so much better than SUVs. Sorry there is no comparison. We looked into everything and against Ryan's will, the minivan won out. The best part is, now he will admit that he loves it!

Love my minivan! But, smart to look into all the different options! My favorite thing about the minivan is the two automatic doors. They are lifesavers for mommies with hands full!

Seriously, don't let your SUV driving friends fool you...just kidding...but seriously, I LOVE MY MINIVAN. I too never thought I would say that. The van was in being serviced a few weeks ago and my parents were out of town so I had their Honda Pilot and I HATED EVERY MINUTE of driving that thing. It was painful, and I mean painful to drive carpool. I had to get out to help little ones in and out of the backseat. I LOVE the automatic doors on the van so I can keep myself nice and cozy and simply push a button and kids can climb in. I was amazed at how much gas that thing used and it is supposed to be one of the more "gas friendly" SUV's. Summary...if you are planning on having a few more kids and are looking to get a new car - minivans are the way to go. I have not found an SUV that has as much cargo space in the back either. If you have all the seats up in an SUV (meaning the back seats that fold flat) there is no room to store anything. I can't even fit my stroller in the cargo space of my parents SUV...let alone any groceries. Do you get my point? I love minivan's - the next time we upgrade it will be to a Suburban but only because we will be forced and it will break my heart to get rid of my Toyota Sienna!

I vote for automatic sliding doors.
Mommy's hands are usually full of important things, like kids.

Wih 5 sister in laws on Lee's side, all with plenty of kids..I've heard the praise of a mini van. I think it will probably be one of those things that I appreciate when I have more kids, but untill then..

We have a GMC Acadia. I love it, but I will admit it is more difficult than a minivan to get kids in and out of etc. Kyle and I are discussing having him take over the Acadia and me get a minivan. One example, when I carpool for Griffin's preschool I have to get in and out and lift each kid in and out of the car. My neighbor sits in the car and opens her automatic door and the kids climb in. Do that over and over all day with all your kids and you no longer care if you're cool, you just want convenient.

We got a minivan last year and I LOVE it! Every time I drive Justin's Hyundai Elantra (little car) I miss my van. When you get a van though, double automatic sliding doors are a must! I love my van and will probably be driving one forever :)

Ive heard the gmc acadia with captains chairs in the middle! Its just more expensive than a mini van. I just got a pilot last year and love it (compared to my old sedan from high school) but it will be interesting putting three in there this Spring (2 benches). Im not too good for a van one day either :)

FORD FLEX! I have one and it is a little bigger than a mini van inside--at least more cargo room in the back and the main bench in the back is very roomy. You can get captain chairs if you want, but we opted for the bench so we could seat 7 for car pooling. It has great gas mileage--gas mileage like a mini-van, but looks more like a SUV. I seriously love my Flex. We got the base model, but they do have some really great upgraded options. I had a SUV before but I was so sick of paying the high gas and there was no way I was getting a mini van. My husband would never buy one anyway. Some day, I want to get the fully loaded one, but for now this car is the best! I wouldn't want anything else. Ford isn't even making a mini van anymore--this is their new "mini van", but much cooler :)

I NEVER thought I would drive a minivan, but Casey talked me into it and I absolutely LOVE it!! The automatic doors are heavenly. I also like the fact that the doors slide open rather than opening and hitting another car. They are also lower to the ground so it's easier for the little ones to climb in by themselves. I would at least test drive one before making any final decisions.
