My Baby Story

I am feeling better and better everyday (thank goodness...2 hours of pushing and 17 hrs of labor will do that to you) and Colton is doing great! He is absolutely perfect and learning to do all the things babies need to do: eat, sleep, look cute, and go to the bathroom.
We love him so much and could just look at him all day. Well, I could except I try to sleep every time he takes a nap so I actually can get some shut eye :) I love his totally dark hair and think he looks like both of us.

A Quick Version of the Birth Story (don't feel pressured to read)
Mike and I went to the hospital at 9 p.m. Tuesday for the induction and since I was already at a 2-3 and 80 % effaced, they hooked me right up to the pitocin. All night until 6 I had regular contractions that were manageable and I could breathe through them without pain medication. Mike got a little nap and I tried to sleep in between contractions, but you can imagine that isn't the most restful sleep :) haha. I started to get a little frustrated with how slow I was progressing, but the nurse tried to comfort me by telling me it usually takes the most time to get from a 3 to a 4.

6:00 a.m.
After 8 hours, the nurse suggested we speed things up a bit by breaking my water. I knew the contractions would be intense after this, and they were. Immediately after she broke my water the contractions were very intense. After about 30 minutes of very strong contractions and breathing thru them, I decided to get an epidural so I could get some shut eye and keep enough strength for the pushing. The epidural went well, it was the BEST thing ever. I was able to relax and rest for the next few hours.

11 a.m.
I could tell my body had progressed and wasn't able to sleep anymore, but I was at a 10! For the next hour we let the contractions continue to help me so I wouldn't have to push as long (whoops, I still had to do a TON of that)

12-1:44 p.m.
I pushed this entire time, but was very positive and energized. As long as Colton was gradually progressing, I was just fine. It's crazy the adrenaline and energy you get from a higher power. I think the nurses (there were 3 student nurses watching me also) were slightly confused because I was so positive and happy in between pushing haha.

1:44 pm
This was the LONGEST 1 1/2 mins of my life. Mike started pacing the room...Colton didn't cry when he came out and took a couple of minutes for his first yell. I broke down once I heard that little cry, I was so relieved. The next moments were sweet and I will remember as some of the most precious moments of my life. The doctor finished working on me and Mike came over to my side and we both just looked at each other and cried. We did it! Our little boy was here and he was beautiful and perfect (no matter how much of a cone head he had).

We both held him and his little dark hair. He just looked around at us peacefully with those little eyes. I still couldn't believe he was mine, but I knew that I loved him.

*All and all, I was SO happy with how the delivery went. I felt very blessed for everything working out. Mike was so great and supportive, he was a real comfort during the whole thing.

Baby Colton and Daddy
Happy boy!Grandma is a life saver!
I am NOT strangling him, I am BURPING him. I promise. He makes the funniest little face when I burp him. I love it.

I'm goin' the place where I belong

Today we brought Ang and Colton home from the hospital and both are doing great, although Angela is sore everywhere(even the arms) and I wouldn't touch her with a 10-foot pole right now. As requested, I took more pictures today you people are insatiable...... jk.

Baby on board

We are proud to present Colton Daniel Rose. My wife was so brave today she had to push for about 2 hours after being up all night and was an absolute champ about it, I never knew she was that tough. I know I could not have done that. This was a long and emotional 16 hours of labor and we're glad it's over(I know Ang will say to me later, "yeah real tough for you sleeping half the time huh Mike?); but the birth of Colton is something we will remember forever, what an incredible experience. We look forward to watching him grow, and I am willing to bet you will see Colton again on this blog in the future. I can't say for sure, but it's a hunch.

stats= 7 pounds 13 ounces. 20.5 inches long. Dark brown hair

Big Day

Well, today is the day. I thought it would never come, but it has! Tonight I go in to the hospital to get induced and will have the baby sometime tomorrow.

There is no crazier feeling than knowing you are about to experience the most exciting, difficult, emotional and important moment in your life...all in the next day. I'm feeling confident and ready (well, as ready as you can feel which isn't very much).

Mike and I are excited to welcome little Colton into the world. I hope he gets here safely and without TOO much trouble for mom :)

The progression

I figured I'd take a trip down memory lane and show the progression of my growing belly. But first, here I am today (around 39 weeks)...4 1/2 days from my induction.

39 weeks: Yes, I am happy, I just don't want to emphasize my chubby cheeks right now. haha. As my friend Andrea said to me "I'm warning will explode in the last month"...and that I did! Could Colton be a 9 lb baby? We'll see!
15 weeks: Ah yes, exciting the first trimester and finally feeling good again.
17 weeks: This picture was taken in response to my co-worker telling me how "surprised she was at how big my belly was!" Do you remember that story?
20 weeks: It's a boy! Mike and I found out we were having a baby boy!
23 weeks: Mike and I went on a Babymoon to San Diego and loved it.
27 weeks: I had my first baby shower over Thanksgiving break in Utah (and a few more after that...thanks everyone for being so generous!)
36 weeks: Me in the office
39 weeks:, 4 1/2 days from my induction!!!!
There you go! It's been a long 9 months, and I think I'm as ready as I'll ever be to have a baby. Here's to motherhood, exhaustion, joy, laughter, tears and family!

I didn't hear back from the Dr.'s office on scheduling my induction, so I called again today. I just got a call back and the earliest they can get me into the hospital is...

Tuesday NIGHT. Apparently my Dr.'s office starts the inductions in the evenings. I'm not sure how I feel about that. Does that mean they will have bad nurses and a bad anesthesiologist since it's the night shift?

So DANG, now this baby won't be born until Wednesday, February 25. Ugh. Reset my mind to another week.

Walking Time Bomb

Okay, so here is another update from my Dr. appt today:

  • The Dr. tried a couple things to see if it would put me into labor (it wasn't too bad)
  • I've had a little cramping today, but not I assume I probably am NOT going into labor today
  • Hopefully it helped me get a little more ready though!
  • I am waiting to hear back to see if MONDAY morning is open for my INDUCTION. Yep, Monday, Feb 23
  • I'm still playing the waiting game...either he'll come on his own, or I'll get induced on Monday!
  • I'm feeling good still (this is why I'm guessing he's not going to come on his own...I'm feeling too good. haha)

At the most, 6 more days of being pregnant. Crazy. I can't believe I'm going to meet Colton so soon. I feel nervous to meet him, like he's a celebrity, since I've talked and thought about him so much. Wish me luck!

I just had my Dr. Appt.

  • I'm still between a 1 and 2
  • 2 weeks and 5 days until Mar 1 due date (dr. still says I won't see my due date), but wants to have me go into labor on my own if possible
  • By my appt next Tues, if I haven't gone into labor he's gonna try a few things to possibly help my body go into labor
  • We'll schedule an induction date at my next appt. sometime before Mar 1, in case those things don't put me into labor
  • Dr thinks I have a good (big but not huge) sized baby, but isn't overly concerned so we are trying to wait it out
  • Apparently I have "strong" tissue, which is good normally, but for delivery maybe isn't the best because it's not very "loose"

So, I'm guessing this baby is coming either on his own or with help by around the 23rd. We'll see.

The Unveiling

...of the baby room!
I think it's done. Mike did a great job installing the chair rail and painting (thanks for the help Aaron) and then we just decorated with the blue, brown and a little burnt orange.

Enjoy! --I feel bad for my next children since they will not get this kind of attention. haha.
This is the view from the doorway
A view looking from the chair out into our upstairs
These are my favorite parts of the room. I wanted some cute accents, so I painted these little wooden figures from Michaels. I'll fill the frames once I have some cute pictures of Colton!
My random cars are ALSO a favorite of the room. I got this from Home Goods and LOVE it. I also painted that little airplane that is in the bear's lap.

Uh oh

Disclaimer: I know that doctors can predict wrong...but still...wouldn't YOU be nervous?

Is it possible I am going to have a monster child? YES

At my doctors appt today I had a baby growth ultrasound. He was measuring at 7 lbs 14 oz...this is not his PROJECTED weight for delivery, this is his projected weight TODAY. (he consistently has been measuring big throughout pregnancy)

I still have almost 4 weeks left.

This would put my child at almost 10 lbs at delivery. thank you.

My doctor says that I shouldn't see my due date. I hope not! Where in the WORLD is this kid fitting in me?
